A Bad Case of Road Rage

First it was Nestor Ponce Jr., Presidential Assistant for Resettlement, on Sunday, August 8th 2004.
Five years later, on Wednesday, November 18th 2009, it was Renato Ebarle Jr.
What happened to Nestor Ponce Jr. was an accident- up early on a Sunday morning to make his way to Tagaytay for "a religious gathering," Nestor Ponce Jr.'s Isuzu Trooper got rammed head on by a Toyota Prado Land Cruiser. Also in the Isuzu Trooper were Nestor's wife, Evangeline, and their driver. The wife and the driver survived, Nestor did not.

Renato Ebarle Jr. also died in his car. Renato was the "son of Presidential Chief of Staff Undersecretary Renato Ebarle Sr." Last Wednesday, at about 11 PM, Renato Ebarle Jr. was driving his Toyota Land Cruiser down Santolan in Barangay Valencia when "a foreign-looking man alighted from a blue van and fired" several shots at his vehicle. Ebarle Jr. subsequently died from the gunshot wounds that he sustained. The police have not yet been able to uncover a motive for the shooting except that it may have possibly escalated from a traffic altercation.
Aside from tragedy and the victim's relations to Government, the two incidents share another commonality in that the registration of both vehicles used to perpetrate the actions resulting in victim's deaths (a Toyota Prado Land Cruiser in Ponce Jr.'s case and "a blue van," in Ebarle Jr.'s) can be traced back to Steve Pollard, "a senior economist with the Asian Development Bank."
Pollard, "a resident of Mandaluyong City" is a British National who married Marlene Aguilar, and took on Jason Ivler- Marlene's son from a previous marriage.

In August 2004, Ivler was "a junior psychology major at [Hawaiian Pacific University]" on vacation visiting Aguilar"sister of Philippine musician Freddie Aguilar," and Pollard. Driving his stepfather's Toyota Prado Land Cruiser home on C5, early Sunday morning on August 8th, "witnesses said Ivler lost control of his vehicle before it crossed the median and hit Ponce's van."
The law charged Jason Ivler with reckless homicide two days later. His trial was set for September 7th, 2004.
On August 17th, 2004, NBI agents caught Jason Ivler attempting to evade prosecution, aboard a ferry leaving Zamboanga for Malaysia. Accompanying Jason Ivler were "a colonel and a chief inspector, they did not have any orders from higher-ups; they were there on their own." He was arrested but afforded the ₱30,000 bail and turned to the press saying that he feared for his life. He told them his fears stemmed from information he had obtained that stated that the family of Nestor Ponce Jr. had put out a contract on his life.
The internet is a bit hazy on what happened with the September 1st court date but I don't think Mr. Ivler went to jail.
Back to the future. The shooting of Renato Ebarle Jr.-
"based on the accounts of several witnesses, the gunman was a foreigner who was on board a blue wagon with diplomatic plate number 20903... the gunman, [was further] described to be between 25 to 30 years old... [with] a tattoo on his right arm... the foreigner got irked and shot Ebarle three times after a traffic altercation... several people saw the gunman get off a blue wagon and shoot Ebarle three times through his vehicle's windshield."

Tracing the plate, Cops find out that the vehicle is a "ADB registered Honda CRV 1998 model," belonging to Steve Pollard.
As of three hours ago, Police stated that "Stephen Pollard has 'until 12 noon... to show up, otherwise a manhunt against him will be launched.'"
"National Police chief Director General Jesus Verzosa ordered an all out manhunt of Jason Ivler... [who is] believed to be in possession of a .45 pistol and has been 'classified dangerous.'"

"The Department of Foreign Affairs has refused to comment on the liability of ADB officials or their children or relatives in such incidents, saying it's too premature."

I condone the parents of Ebarle as well as mother of Jason Ivler. Though what Jason did is extremely wrong, he was active in the troops of Iraq. This boy might be suffering from PTSD (Post Traumatic Syndrome Disorder). As a usual case of a serviceman, who was active in war. Nobody in the news stated that Ivler could be potentially a victim of PTSD. He should be under the care of psychiatrists or psychologists. In the Philippines, PTSD is not fully known as a disorder but in the US, most of the veterans have this disorder and are being under the treatment.

PTSD my ass!!! What about Ponce? May PTSD ba din sya noon? Kano lang siya na tangang mag maneho dito sa Pinas, tulad lang din nung tatay nya kaya na tigok sa kalye. Go to You Tube guys and listen to him RAP…this is just a spoiled brat (with an insane mom) who thinks he can get away with murder!
